October 10, 2023 Breakfast Meeting

Why Attend This Meeting?

You will learn/be refreshed on the key questions we should be asking during the discovery phase as well as what documents we should be asking for depending on how the client answers the questions.

This meeting will focus on:

  • Considerations for handling digital assets in your estate plan documents

  • Recruiting and retaining difference making employees in a tight labor market

Andrew Mackerer, Esq. will discuss Digital Assets and Estate Planning

Description: In today’s highly digital world, addressing digital assets in estate planning is a necessity. These digital assets, such as online accounts/email services, virtual currencies, and digitally stored files, require particular attention from practitioners. Fiduciary professionals should be prepared to address the new challenges these assets create, which could include concerns involving federal privacy laws and terms of service agreements.  The program will provide a comprehensive discussion of the recent estate planning issues and developments surrounding digital assets. Andrew will also share his insights on the most common pitfalls as well as the best practices fiduciaries should consider in maximizing the potentials of digital estate planning.

Key issues to be discussed are as follows:

  • An Overview of Estate Planning for Digital Assets

  • Recent Trends and Developments

  • Key Issues and Challenges

  • Best Practices

Don Cooper, Regional VP Business Planning, will review the critical importance of the owners recruiting, retaining and incentivizing their key employees to stay for the long term via the various types of deferred compensation strategies (Golden Handcuffs) typically funded with Life and Disability insurance benefits. Don intends to review the key ingredients of these strategies as well as when/where they each should be considered. In today’s very tight labor market these tools are essential for planners to be aware of so they can assist their clients in running their businesses profitably.
